Henry Shrapnell, the Elder`s Will for 1681
In the Name of God Amen I Henry Shrapnell the elder of Bradford in the county of Wiltshire, Cooper being of good and perfect mind and memory but weak in body praise be therefore given to Almighty God do make and ordain through my present last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First and principally give my soul in to the hands of almighty god hoping and through the merits,.. and passion of my saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and in merit ever lasting life, and mine body I remit to ye .. to be decently buried in the Church yard at Bradford as now, as may be to the place where my wife and children were buried at the charge of my executioners hereafter mentioned and for that worldly estate which it hath pleased almighty God to bestow upon me I give and bequeath as follows: I give and bequeath unto my son Henry one shilling, I give unto my daughter Mary Deverell the wife of Anthony Deverell one shilling. I give unto the four children of my daughter Rebecca Alderwicke the sums of five shillings a year of good money. I give unto my daughter Edith Hodges, wife of John Hodges one shilling. I give unto my daughter Alice Marvin, wife of Robert Marvin one shilling And my will so that forty shillings which there fore Robert Marvin with unto me shall be equally divided between his two children now living I do like wise give my aforesaid daughter Alice all that my Goods or household stuffs that now is in the possession of my aforesaid son in law Robert Marvin, And If that my said daughter Alice happens to that then there aforesaid goods shall be equally divided between the two children of the Alice Marvin. I give unto my grandchild Hanna Shrapnell, daughter of John Shrapnell, one bed, Bolster, two pillows, two coverlets, two blankets, curtains and vallens, one chest, one Joyns Chair, one Joyn Stool, one pair of Andyers, Fire pans and Tongs and one skillett. I give unto my daughter Ann Webb, wife of Francis Webb the sum of ten shillings of good money and I give unto Sarah Webb, my Grandchild one chest now in the possession of the aforesaid Francis Webb All the rest and residue of my personal estate, goods and chattels, what nature sooner any where to be found, or had, not herein before given and bequeathed I do give unto my son John Shrapnell of Trowbridge, in the County of Wiltshire, Cooper, and do make him my full and whole Executor of through my last Will and Testament paying my lawful debts and discharging my funeral and charge. And I do hereby revoke, ..and make void all forms , wills and testaments by me have so far made. And also to pay all my before mentioned legacies. In witness where of I the said Henry Shrapnell ye elder to this my last will and testament being mentioned in one sheet of paper set my hand and seal this last day of November in the two and thirtieth year of the reign of our sovereign Lord Charles ye served by the Grace of god in England, Scotland for King defender of the faith and in the year of our lord god one thousand six hundred and eighty
