Brenda Frankham, the President, welcomed everyone to the meeting, and the formal business was soon conducted. Members were asked to approve a proposal that the WI visit Marlborough and the wild flower garden in the Savernake Forest, which would be the garden meeting .
The speaker, who had very kindly attended at very short notice, was Mr Colin Alexander-Jones, a local historian, researcher and author, who spoke about "Past Memories of the Bath Area". He told stories of the Oldfield Park and Twerton area and related many anecdotes about well known "characters" from the Bath area including "Guinea Pig Jack" and "Billy Look Up", some of whom members recalled hearing about. Mr Alexander-Jones has written several books about local history, including a history of Oldfield Park and a book about the giant of Weston. He is currently writing a new book. He also spoke about history of the Twerton area and told stories about Beau Nash and John Wesley. He passed round several photographs and articles for members to study. Next month, the speaker will be Tony Scammell whose subject is "Musical Instruments".
