IT was good to see so many of our members at our meeting on 11th September, when we welcomed as our guest speaker Mr Barnett of the Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust. Having been converted to the cause of wildfowl during his service in the Navy by none other than Peter Scott, Mr Barnett used his impressive transparencies to introduce us to the annual migrants which fly into and out of Slimbridge. Speaking with knowledge and enthusiasm and without benefit of a note, he earned our admiration for his obvious devotion to the preservation of this highly significant wildfowl habitat. A trip to Slimbridge, planned for January 2003 will provide a particularly appropriate follow-up in giving us the opportunity to observe migrants in large numbers and of many kinds. In the mean time, our harvest supper on 9th October will be followed by the annual general meeting on 13th November and a talk on gardening for wildlife on 11th December.
